District IV Middle School District Band Audition Requirements
Major Scales: (20%) Memorized – concert Bb, Eb, Ab, F, C Chromatic Scale: (20%) Memorized Prepared Audition: (30%) Etudes located for each instrument on www.vboda4.org Sightreading: (30%) 30 seconds will be allowed for silent study
Percussion exceptions: Timpani audition will consist of Tuning (20%), Prepared (30%), and Sightreading (50%). Snare drum audition will consist of Long Roll (10%), Rudiments (30%), Prepared (30%) and Sightreading (30%).
Chromatic Scale: Slur ascending and staccato tongue descending in sixteenth notes. Note exceptions for trombone and tuba.

Major Scales are played as many complete octaves as possible within the chromatic range of the instrument. All tempos are as indicated for the chromatic scale. Major scales will be called by key name for each instrument, not concert pitch. All instruments will play legato tongue in a quarter note/ eighth note pattern for all octaves.
